Since 2012, we enable online stores to sell globally.
Tax
E-Commerce VAT
We provide VAT registration and compliance services globally. Taxmen enables online stores to avoid lengthy and random searches for tax accountants in foreign countries. Merchants storing goods in European warehouses (for instance, with Amazon FBA) are required to register immediately for VAT where the goods are stored. Our registration and filing services are subject to convenient flat rates.
Customs & Import Duties
Cross-border ecommerce shipments are normally subject to customs clearance in the country of destination. Customs and import duties are levied on international shipments, unless reliefs apply. A low-value exemption or free trade agreement can have a beneficial impact on the taxation of exports. We help ecommerce stores to understand what happens behind the border and to shape a most efficient logistical flow for exports.
Sales Tax/GST
Sales tax/GST in Australia, Canada and the United States of America may also apply to online transactions. Today, distance sellers can be often required to register for and pay sales taxes where the products are delivered, regardless of any physical presence there. We support online stores to determine sales tax nexus and comply with foreign sales taxes regulations.
Green Dot
We enable ecommerce stores to report and pay mandatory fees for packaging waste recovery and recycling in all Europe. Most EU countries require foreign online stores to join national packaging recovery schemes without any quantity threshold. The green dot symbol used on packaging in some European countries signifies that the merchant has made a financial contribution for the recovery and recycling of packaging in Europe.
WEEE on Electronic Products
We are a one-stop-shop for compliance services enabling retailers to report and pay the mandatory fees for the recovery of waste electrical and electronic equipment (WEEE) imposed by most EU countries. Online stores delivering electric and electronical products to consumers in Europe are required by law to register with national waste collection systems and fulfil take-back obligations in country of delivery.
Wine E-commerce
Online trade of beer, wine and spirits is increasing globally. The European legal framework makes cross-border retail of alcohol products far from being easy. Already partnering with important wineries, retailers, logistical and warehouse operators all around the world, we advise online wine stores on excise duties, VAT and other international tax aspects.
Intellectual Property (IP) Box Regimes
Most countries grant tax incentives to business developing intellectual property (e.g. patents, copyrighted software, etc.). Among various benefits, the IP Box systems enable businesses to reduce Corporation Tax on profits derived from the use of intellectual property. We assist digital businesses to determine their eligibility to IP Box incentives and during applications.
Law
Terms of Sales Consumer Rights
Online sales of goods and services are subject to statutory consumer rights in most countries: for instance, the right change to your mind within a set timeframe – the so-called “cooling-off period” – and guarantees against faulty products. Online stores selling to many countries must implement customer policies to meet the requirements of multiple laws – not an easy task. We can help them to do this properly.
Privacy & Cookies
Digital businesses often process large quantities of personal data. Many countries have enacted laws regulating the use of personal data and the privacy rights of users, requiring in particular all sites to process personal data lawfully and to publish their own privacy and cookie policy. The most famous set of rules is the European GDPR. We support businesses in complying with data protection rules globally.
Social Media
Managing a social media profile (Facebook, Instagram, Twitter, etc.) for business, marketing or communication purposes has its legal implications. For instance: the unlawful publication of pictures may lead to civil or even criminal liabilities. We advise digital businesses on the legal side of social media management, blogging/vlogging and other related activities.
Software & Intellectual Property
Businesses should protect their own intellectual property. The global circulation of digital content makes brands, trademarks, patents and software particularly vulnerable to illicit reproduction, plagiarism and piracy. So, the terms of use of websites, software and applications should clearly delineate what users can do and what they cannot do. We support digital businesses in protecting their intellectual property rights internationally.
Antitrust & Geo-Blocking
International e-commerce requires traders to comply with domestic and international competition laws that are becoming more and more rigorous. Recently, new EU rules forbid some commercial practices preventing users from buying products online from other countries (“geo-blocking”). We advise businesses internationally to implement law-abiding commercial practices.
International Trade
International trade is often subject to tight domestic and international laws concerning health safety (e.g., healthcare or cosmetic products), environment protection (e.g., CITES) or and other regulatory frameworks (e.g., alcohol products). We advise export-oriented businesses to develop logistical procedures that meet cross-border trade regulations.
Online Dispute Resolution - Mediation
The role of mediation in resolving disputes that arise out of business to consumer online transactions has grown significantly in the last years. New EU rules even require marketplaces and other online intermediaries to name two mediators that the platform is willing to engage in a dispute. We are able to support digital businesses in resolving consumer disputes with the help of our partnering lawyers, mediators and advisors.
